Yes I agree. Religion often gets a bad rap. I would say that most "religious" wars are over resources rather than over religion. The religion is often just an excuse.
Overall I would say more good. I base this on the findings of psychologists that religion does seem to help people with grounding and a sense of being a part of something larger and more significant than themselves.
Against all the supposed comfort that some religions are supposed to provide, you have to balance the fact that they have, at the same time, suppressed thought and experiment in favor of DOGma. Further, one could gain even more comfort from dealing with reality first.
There are better ways to get grounded and believe in something higher than yourself rather than to hold a dogmatic view about an unproved and irrational faith. Charity, benevolent societies, environmental groups, I could name a thousand better ways.
